IFP Secretary-General, Rev Musa Zondi
today noted with sadness the passing of Dr Ntatho Montlana,
former Chairperson of the Soweto Committee of 10, a prominent
medical practioner and business man.
"Dr Montlana will be fondly remembered
in the IFP for his energetic and vigorous contribution to the
struggle for liberation from his early days in the ANC Youth
League at the University of Fort Hare and as Chairperson of the
Soweto Committee of 10 in the late seventies," said Rev Musa
Zondi, the IFP's Secretary General.
"Dr Montlana fearlessly waded in where
very few dared to go and became the voice of the oppressed
during the height of apartheid, when other leaders and political
organisations were banned in South Africa. He was a true and
fearless champion of the oppressed.
"Dr Montlana was also very active in
improving the public health sector of the people of Soweto and
the greater Johannesburg area through many initiatives.
"The IFP expresses its heartfelt
condolences to members of his family and especially to his wife,
Zanele and their children. We mourn together with them because
this loss is not theirs alone but for the nation as a whole. In
his passing South Africa has lost one of its brightest sons and
a beacon of hope," concluded Rev Zondi.
