IFP MP, Mr. Bonginkosi Dlamini, said today that the
Party "welcomed ESKOM's decision to write off R1.3 billion of debt in
Soweto as a positive social justice measure which will assist Soweto's
poorest people".
Mr. Dlamini said:
"The IFP welcomes ESKOM's decision to write
off R1.3 billion of debt in South Africa's biggest and one of the
poorest townships, Soweto. ESKOM's decision is an excellent example of
corporate social responsibility to alleviate the plight of the poorest.
Indeed, members of IFP met with ESKOM earlier in the year encouraging
them to take this step."
"We also fully support the introduction of
prepaid meters which will help people not to slip into debt and strongly
oppose the Soweto Crisis Committee which is bizarrely opposing the
meters introduction".
