IFPYB - IFP MPs MUST GO HOME

June 2, 2006

The IFP Youth Brigade today called for its MPs in the National Assembly to go home after they failed to defend the track-record of IFP leader, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi while he was still Minister of Home Affairs.

"This week IFP MPs in parliament sat motionless like statues while the ANC blamed Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi for the woes in the Home Affairs department. The message that is out there is that Prince Buthelezi was ineffective and clueless while he was Minister. If the IFP MPs cannot defend the track-record of our leader in parliament, and just sit like shy girls dumbfounded by the ANC's charm, then they should go home as they are just filling space," said Thulasizwe Buthelezi, National Chairperson of the IFP Youth Brigade.

"IFP Members of Parliament should understand that they are not in parliament for a honeymoon. They are there to articulate the policies of the party and to defend the image of the party which is symbolised by its President. IFP MPs have failed dismally in this respect. The image of our leader is now distorted simply because they failed to use the parliamentary forum to defend his track-record, but instead folded their hands and watched as the ANC had a field day," concluded Thulasizwe Buthelezi.
