The IFP will launch its national voter
registration campaign on Sunday 5 October 2008 in Stanger. The
event will take place at KwaDukuza taxi rank at 10h00 and will
be addressed by IFP President Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who
will be accompanied by the IFP executive.
"The campaign will criss-cross KwaZulu
Natal and other provinces in the run up to the voter
registration weekend of 8-9 November 2008 organised by the
Independent Electoral Commission (IEC)," said IFP National
Organiser Albert Mncwango.
In the weeks leading to the voter
registration weekend the IFP campaign will tour KwaZulu Natal by
district as well as other provinces, urging potential voters to
register, and existing voters to check their registration status
with the IEC.
"The campaign's focus will be on public
meetings. Our appeal will also be to various stakeholders such
as public servants, business people, and traditional, community
and religious leaders," said Mncwango.
The IFP aspires to register potential,
especially first-time voters in the run-up to the next general
election. "We are particularly concerned about the publicised
slump in the number of registered voters in KwaZulu Natal since
the last local government elections in 2006 and the slow pace of
new registrations by the IEC itself," said Mncwango.
