The IFP stronghold at KwaHill, South of
Durban that was damaged by last Sunday's storms, have been
eluded by government services despite MEC Meshack Hadebe's
Sunday visit to these areas. On the other hand, eziMangweni - an
ANC stronghold - and which is very close to kwaHill has received
temporary tents and also receive daily food rations.
Details about this selective service
delivery, apparently motivated by party-political reasons,
emerged in discussions between these communities and some
Durban-based Members of the Provincial Parliament and
Councillors who visited the areas today.
Speaking to the IFP leaders, Ms Smangele Hill
said: "A local ANC Councillor told us that we are hard-headed
and consequently we will not receive any assistance from the ANC
government. This was after we told them that we cannot
ditch the IFP for the ANC just because the ANC government is
offering to help us in our plight, because service delivery is
not a favour but a government responsibility. Since MEC Hadebe
arrived here on Sunday the ANC area of eziMangweni has been
supplied with tents and they receive food rations everyday. We
on the other hand have not received any such services despite
our protestations. We are being punished for being loyal to the
IFP"
