The IFP condemns the murder of a member of
the Zulu royal family, Prince Thulani Zulu. The Prince was
gunned down in Nongoma on Tuesday afternoon.
"The IFP condemns this murder in the
strongest language," said Dr Lionel Mtshali, MPP, who leads
the IFP caucus in the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Parliament.
"Incidents like this are reminiscent of political violence
of old and frustrate our efforts to build a peaceful, stable and
prosperous province." The IFP urges the public to
co-operate with SAPS in its investigation.
The IFP, as Dr Mtshali stated in his
response to the Premier's State of the Province Address,
applauds the bold and uncompromising stand adopted by its
leader, Honourable Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi who requested the
appointment of a Presidential Commission of Inquiry into
Political Violence in KwaZulu-Natal. Such a commission has since
been announced by Premier S'bu Nbedele.
"We, as a political party, accept the
Premier's challenge to contribute to the search for the terms of
reference for this initiative. The IFP has, for many years, been
the lone voice in its demands for justice for the killings of
the 400 IFP leaders and the 20 000 civilians at Richmond and
elsewhere in the province at the height of the political
violence that destabilised KwaZulu-Natal," said Dr Mtshali.
