ANC Councillor Flees Crime Scene

3 April 2009

An ANC Councillor was reportedly seen by residents of KwaMakhutha fleeing from the crime scene following the theft of bricks from a housing site. According to the IFP's statement issued today, yesterday evening at about 10pm, some residents saw two bakkies loading bricks at a site where there are bricks kept for the development of disaster-damaged houses at Ward 96 KwaMakhutha, South of Durban. The residents informed the police who then gave chase. One bakkie was caught with 206 bricks while the other sped away. Both the bakkie and bricks are kept at the said police station. Case No's. given were 06/04/2009 and 13/131/2009. It is alleged that among those who managed to flee was an ANC Councillor.

"According to our information, two bakkies fled from the scene when they were chased by the police. Among the alleged thieves, we are told, was an ANC Councillor," says Joshua Mazibuko, IFP MPL. "As the IFP, we totally condemn this inhuman and evil act. This one is particularly repugnant since these bricks are meant for the destitute who suffered from the recent disasters. And, should it be true that among the thieves was an ANC Councillor, it would be worse than any other crime because the ANC parades itself as the champion for the underdog. We call on the ANC to quickly investigate this and let the world know if indeed their Councillor was involved," ended Mazibuko.
