The Inkatha Freedom Party believes that the sheer scale of
the human suffering of the Kosovo ethnic Albanian refugees demands a response from South
Africa and all nations of the world capable of offering assistance.
At this, the holiest period in the Christian calendar, South
Africa must put to one side all political and diplomatic considerations and focus on
alleviating the appalling plight of the hundreds of thousands of men, women and children
who are now without shelter, food or medical assistance.
The Inkatha Freedom Party calls on the Government to mobilise
whatever resources it has available and to co-operate with the appropriate organisations
and/or countries involved in helping the refugees to receive whatever human and material
aid we can send.
The IFP feels deeply conscious of the fact that South Africa,
with its own history of forced removals and untold human misery accompanying such action,
cannot sit back and watch this human tragedy unfold without doing something.
We believe history will damn us if we do nothing.
