IFP Voter Registration Campaign Goes to Ugu

3rd October 2008

IFP National Chairperson Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi who leads her party's national voter registration campaign will take it to the Ugu District on 7 and 8 October 2008.

"Our campaign is targeting potential and previously unregistered voters, especially first-time voters, as well as those who have registered and voted before whom we urge to visit their local IEC outlets and check their registration status ahead of next year's election," said kaMagwaza-Msibi.

Alongside the general public, the IFP voter registration drive is hosting special campaign events to reach out to civil servants, business people, farmers, and traditional, community and religious leaders. The campaign's programme in Ugu is as follows:

7 October: Port Shepstone, St Martin de Porres School:

09h00 - Meeting with amakhosi, izinduna and traditional councils 14h00 - Meeting with civil servants, religious and community leaders 17h00 - Meeting with business people, taxi operators and farmers

8 October: Ezinqolweni:

09h00-11h30 - Blitz and visibility campaign 12h00 - IFP voter registration campaign address to the public

"Our message is one of hope the next election can bring to the leadership crisis in this country. Before we can bring about that change in an election, we all need to register to vote," said kaMagwaza-Msibi.

The IFP National Chairperson has already taken the campaign to the Zululand, Uthukela, Umzinyathi and Sisonke Districts. From Ugu the IFP voter registration drive will proceed to Umgungundlovu, Umkhanyakude, Zululand (again), Durban Metro, Ilembe, Amajuba and Uthungulu. The exact dates and venues for the upcoming events will be announced in due course. The campaign will culminate with the IEC's voter registration weekend on 8-9 November 2008.
