IFP Applauds 2010 World Cup Construction
Action Plan
MEDIA STATEMENT RELEASED BY:
Mr Bonginkosi Dhlamini MP
IFP Spokesperson on Sports and Recreation
October 4, 2006
The Inkatha Freedom Party's spokesperson on Sports and
Recreation Mr Bonginkosi Dhlamini today welcomed the news that
work on five new stadiums for the 2010 Soccer World Cup will
begin no later than January of next year.
"The IFP welcomes the news that Mr Irvin Khoza has set a January
2007 deadline for construction to start on the 2010 stadiums, as
well as for work to start on the refurbishment of the FNB
Stadium in Soweto," said Mr Dhlamini.
Mr Dhlamini continued: "The IFP also supports FIFA
secretary-general Urs Linsi statements that the South African
transport system and crime remain serious challenges and
therefore the IFP would like to call on government to tackle
these problems with vigour and determination. The IFP however,
is mindful of government's efforts to resolve crime and the
upgrade of our over-stressed transport system."
"The 2010 Soccer World Cup will bring enormous economic benefits
to South Africa, and therefore no stone should be left unturned
to make sure that the World Cup is an extremely successful one
for South Africa and the African continent as a whole,"
concluded Mr Dhlamini.
