IFP APPEALS FOR CALM IN NONGOMA

POLICE
URGED TO MAKE IMMEDIATE ARRESTS AFTER KILLING OF IFP REGIONAL SECRETARY
Mr Velaphi Ndlovu MP,
Inkatha Freedom Party Parliamentary Spokesperson on Safety and Security,
has appealed for calm to prevail, following the killing of IFP Zululand
Secretary, Mr Sikhonde, today.
Speaking on behalf of
the IFP, Mr Ndlovu said:
"Whilst I
understand the anger and bitterness of the people, I appeal to everybody,
and in particular to members and structures of the IFP in Nongoma and
surrounding areas, to remain calm on this tragic day."
"I assure all members of the IFP
that we will leave no stone unturned until the perpetrators of this
appalling crime are safely behind bars. We will be insisting that the
police in Nongoma demonstrate their commitment to law and order by taking
immediate action to arrest those criminals involved in this outrageous and
tragic violence."
"In the meantime, I request that
IFP members demonstrate their commitment to the ideals of the Party by
allowing the law to take its proper course and by putting trust in their
leaders to bring about a peaceful settlement in the region."
"To the family and friends of our
colleague Mr Sikhonde, the IFP expresses its deep felt condolences, and
salutes Mr Sikhonde for the commitment and dedication he has shown to our
Party."
