IFP finds final warning too lenient for
negligent acting Pollsmoor head
MEDIA STATEMENT RELEASED BY:
MRS SYBIL SEATON MP
IFP SPOKESPERSON FOR CORRECTIONAL SERVICES
October 5, 2006
Today, the IFP spokesperson for Correctional Services, Mrs Sybil
Seaton condemned the final warning that was handed down to the
acting head of Pollsmoor Prison's female section.
Mrs Seaton said:
"We are uncertain of which charges Kegomoditskie Mpa, the acting
head of Pollsmoor Prison's female section, has been found guilty
of, but we have to strongly condemn her negligent decisions that
led to the death of Marilyn Syfers. Mpa's actions are even
more heinous when you consider that it was a teenage victim that
was subjected to her misguided judgement. "
In conclusion, Mrs Seaton said:
"The IFP feels that Mpa needs more than a final written warning,
the sentence is far too lenient. We call for the Department of
Correctional Services to hand down a harsher sentence, as her
actions as an acting head were appallingly negligent."
