IFP Voter Registration Campaign Goes to Uthungulu

5th November 2008

IFP National Chairperson Zanele kaMagwaza-Msibi who is leading her party's national voter registration campaign is taking it to the Uthungulu District today and tomorrow.

"The IFP voter registration campaign is targeting previously unregistered voters as well as those who have registered and voted before but are unsure about their current registration status with the IEC," said kaMagwaza-Msibi.

The primary focus of the party's voter registration drive is the general public but the IFP is also taking its message to civil servants, business people, taxi operators, farmers, and traditional, community and religious leaders in a series of dedicated meetings.

The campaign's programme in the Ilembe District is as follows:

Wednesday, 5 November:

09h00 - Meeting with amakhosi, izinduna and traditional councils
14h00 - Meeting with civil servants, religious and community leaders
17h00 - Meeting with business people, taxi operators and farmers

Thursday, 6 November:

09h00-11h30 - Blitz and visibility campaign
12h00 - IFP voter registration campaign address to the public

"We are fighting voter apathy with a robust programme for change. Change is in the voters' hands but it can only materialise if they register to vote," said kaMagwaza-Msibi.

The IFP National Chairperson has previously taken the campaign to Zululand (twice), Uthukela, Umzinyathi, Sisonke, Ugu, Umgungundlovu, Umkhanyakude, Durban Metro, Ilembe and Amajuba. The campaign will culminate with the IEC's voter registration weekend on 8-9 November 2008.
