STATEMENT BY:
MR MB SKOSANA MP
IFP SPOKESPERSON ON FOREIGN AFFAIRS
6th May 2008
Mr Moleeane B Skosana MP, IFP spokesperson on Foreign Affairs today said:
"The IFP expresses sympathy and compassion to the people of Myanmar as the death toll rises to 15000 after Saturday's devastating cyclone."
"The IFP welcomes the decision by the ruling junta to call for international aid as the scale of the disaster is reaching crisis proportions, with millions of people having no access to drinking water and reports of 95% of
homes destroyed in the town of Bogalay alone. The suffering of the people
of Myanmar is being exacerbated by the logistical difficulties in getting emergency supplies of water, food and medical supplies to the hardest hit provinces."
"We further welcome the announcement that this crisis has not affected this weekend's critical referendum vote in Myanmar."
