IFP expresses outrage at the hostage drama at CMAX

Durban: 7 November 2004

The IFP is outraged with the hostage drama that took place at the Pretoria Maximum Facility (CMAX) yesterday.

"It is clear that there was some form of corruption involved. Even though reports say that a visitor brought a firearm into the prison, it should have been found when she was searched. It is unacceptable that some officials had to pay with their lives because of the negligence and corruption from other officials."

"The IFP demands that officials suspected of negligence and involvement in this incident be suspended immediately," said Ms Sybil Seaton MP, IFP spokesperson on Correctional Services.

"Our thoughts are with the families of those killed in the incident, but the IFP will not sit back and allow officials to be killed," she concluded.
