IFP Shocked By High Number Of Road Deaths
MEDIA STATEMENT ISSUED BY:
MR BONGINKOSI DHLAMINI MP
IFP SPOKESPERSON ON TRANSPORT
December 7, 2006
The Inkatha Freedom Party's Spokesperson for Transport, Mr
Bonginkosi Dhlamini MP, today expressed his concern with reports
that just over 200 people have been killed on South African
roads since the start of the festive season, only six days ago.
"We are just one week into the holiday season and we've already
had 200 road deaths - it is really shocking. The IFP would like
to urge motorists to take better care on the roads: wear your
safety belt, exercise extreme caution, stick to the speed limit,
don't take chances and be alert at all times," said Mr Dhlamini.
In conclusion Mr Dhlamini appealed to traffic officials to
increase the number of road blocks immediately.
"The IFP would like to appeal to traffic officials to be more
vigilant, to increase road blocks and to be extremely strict
with motorists who are reckless or found to be on the wrong side
of the law," concluded Mr Dhlamini.
