The IFP has been victim of yet another
serious breach of the Electoral Code of Conduct by the ANC,
whose supporters disrupted an IFP campaign event in Gamalakhe
township near Port Shepstone tonight and attacked the
campaigners, led by IFP KwaZulu Natal Premier Candidate Zanele
kaMagwaza-Msibi.
The IFP delegation, which had properly
booked the campaign venue in advance, was met upon arrival by a
group of about 50 ANC members who hurled insults at IFP leaders
and their local supporters. The IFP leadership and some members
of the public had to be escorted from the venue by the SAPS.
"The ANC is treating Gamalakhe township
as a no-go area, something that is in contravention of the
Electoral Code of Conduct to which the ruling party is a
signatory," said IFP KwaZulu Natal Provincial Secretary Dr
Bonginkosi Buthelezi.
On Sunday the IFP's election campaign
was disrupted by ANC members in Greytown. ANC members blocked
the road leading through Nhlakanhle township and stoned the IFP
campaigners' cars. Some in the IFP delegation, including Mayor
of the Umzinyathi District MS Yengwa, sustained injuries.
Both instances of political intolerance
have been reported to the SAPS and the IEC.
