IFP COMMENT ON THE DEATH OF MINISTER STELLA
SIGCAU
May 8, 2006
The National Spokesperson and
Secretary-General of the IFP, Rev. Musa Zondi, today expressed
regret and sadness on the news of the death of Minister Stella
Sigcau.
Rev. Zondi said, "It is with utter sadness and regret that we
have learnt of the passing away of Ms Stella Nomzamo Sigcau at a
Durban hospital early this morning."
"South Africa has lost one of its dedicated hard workers who was
committed to the upliftment of the poorest of the poor," Rev.
Zondi said.
Rev. Zondi added, " As Minister of Public Works, Minister Sigcau
pursued with vigour and passion efforts to combat poverty
through the Community Based Public Works Programme, and this
took her to the poorest corners of the country and kept her in
touch with the ordinary grassroots of our country among whom she
wanted to make a difference for the better in their daily
struggle for survival."
"Minister Sigcau led one of the most challenging Government
Departments and, ensured that the transformation which was
initiated by her predecessor, Minister Jeff Radabe, continued
without let or hindrance," Rev. Zondi added.
"I worked with Minister Sigcau as her Deputy between 2001 and
2004 and I am personally deeply saddened by her departure. I
watched her struggle courageously with her illness as she
remained dedicated to her work in spite of her failing health,"
Rev. Zondi said.
"We remember her family at this moment of sadness and our
condolences go out to them and we wish them God's strength in
this their hour of need," Rev. Zondi added.
"The IFP also extends its condolences to the ANC and the South
African Government for this sad loss," Rev. Zondi concluded.
