The situation in the Middle East

February 9, 2006

By: The Honourable BM Skosana MP
IFP Spokesperson on Foreign Affairs

A senior official of the Department of Foreign Affairs today briefed the IFP Parliamentary Caucus on the situation in the Middle East.

Said Mr. B M Skosana MP: "We were concerned in particular about issues such as whether Hamas will now acknowledge Israel as a state, as well as whether Hamas will abandon its policy of violence."

The IFP Caucus will now invite members of the Israeli and Palestinian Embassies to also brief the caucus.

"We should like to hear both sides so as to be able to form our own independent opinion on events in the Middle East, which is of great concern," said Skosana.
