Zimbabwe Electoral Impasse a Cause for Concern

IFP MEDIA STATEMENT BY:
MR BEN SKOSANA MP
IFP SPOKESPERSON ON INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

9th April 2008

The delay in announcing the election results by the ZEC in Zimbabwe is now a cause of grave concern to the Inkatha Freedom Party.

Since no movement forward can be initiated without the final results - whether it is a victory for the MDC or for ZANU-PF or a possible run-off between the parties - we urge the authorities in Zimbabwe to make available the full and final Zimbabwean election results.

The current situation in that country might lead to mistrust, suspicion, criminality and political lawlessness.

We would like to urge all the parties concerned to remain calm while the current electoral deadlock is being resolved.

Furthermore, the IFP calls on all parties involved to discourage their members from taking the law into their own hands and to work towards resolving this stand-off.
