ANC, Hands Off Judiciary Says IFP

IFP PRESS STATEMENT RELEASED BY:

MR VELAPHI B NDLOVU MP

IFP SPOKESPERSON ON SAFETY & SECURITY

9th September 2008

With the recent protests, ramblings and threats by Zuma supporters, Mr Velaphi Ndlovu MP IFP spokesperson on Safety & Security today said:

"The IFP poses the following questions to the ANC"

-             Do they (ANC) still want to prosecute criminals?

-             What kind of criminals are they willing to prosecute?

-             What not allow Zuma the chance of clearing his name?

-             Why are they so afraid to allow Zuma his 'day in court'?"

"The ANC seems to be prejudging - the very thing Zuma supporters are criticising the judiciary of doing.  We believe they are using Zuma as their 'bat' in the game of compromising the independence of the judiciary, as well as other political matters that have nothing to do with justice at this moment."

Mr Ndlovu further explained his position by saying:

"The IFP believes in the courts and South Africa's justice system.  We respect their independence and urge the citizens of South Africa to force the ANC into reason.  Politicians cannot decide justice."

He concluded by saying that Zuma must clear his name in a court of law if he wants to become President of the country.  "Before the elections Zuma has to clear his name.  Let's leave politics out of the justice system and allow the independent South African judiciary to decide."
