Inkatha Freedom Party Statement By:
MS PATRICIA LEBENYA MP
ACTING NATIONAL CHAIR OF IFP YOUTH BRIGADE

9 November 2007

The Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade would like to express our disappointment with the management of the University of Zululand who failed to attend the inauguration ceremony of the Student Representative Council at the campus on the 2nd of November 2007.

Apparently due to other engagements the Rector and Registrar of the University were not able to attend.

But we, the Inkatha Freedom Party Youth Brigade, believe this is definitely not the whole truth and therefore we want answers from the university's management.

Recently the SA Democratic Students Movement (Sadesmo) won all the Student Representative Council seats at the university.

We want to remind the management that the students of UniZulu are the main stakeholders of the university and this was a very important function that they neglected to attend. What could have been SO important that made it impossible for the two of them to be there?

Furthermore, the IFP Youth Brigade would like to know: is this still a public institution or is the management of this university now clearly playing a political game?

We really hope that the university's management will show some respect towards the students and address this matter urgently.
