Inkatha Freedom Party has vowed to challenge
no-go areas wherever they come across them and especially at
Clermont Township. The party adopted this position yesterday at
the meeting between its eThekwini District Executive Committee
and the leaders of its Inner West Constituency, at Pinetown
Civic Centre. At that meeting, some leaders of the IFP at the
Inner West (Pinetown and surrounding areas) recounted acts of
intimidation and harassment that supporters of the IFP have
suffered at the hands of ANC supporters at Clermont Township.
The IFP Spokesperson in eThekwini Joshua
Mazibuko said: "It is very unfortunate that fifteen years into
democracy, we still hear stories of intimidation and harassment
of South African citizens for no reason other than expressing
their political preferences which happen to be different from
preferences of those who see themselves as owners of Clermont.
As the IFP leadership in eThekwini, we are going to devise
strategies to put an end to no-go areas wherever they are found,
as well as to all such undemocratic behaviour."
