IFP DISMISSES SPECULATION THAT PRINCE MANGOSUTHU BUTHELEZI
COULD BE RECALLED TO KZN AS COMPLETELY BASELESS

ULUNDI : DECEMBER 10, 2002

The National Spokesperson of the IFP, Reverend K.M Zondi, has dismissed media reports in recent days that the Party President, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, would be recalled to KwaZulu-Natal to serve as the Premier as "completely baseless" and a "figment of someone's overactive imagination".

Reverend Zondi said:

"There are no plans nor have there been any discussions within the IFP to recall Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi to KwaZulu-Natal to serve as the Premier."

"Since 1994, the National Council of the Party has deployed the Party President to serve in the National Assembly to lead and champion the interests of the IFP and its constituency in the highest legislative forum in the country. Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi has fulfilled this role with great aplomb and distinction, and will continue to do so irrespective of any changes in the body politic."

"This will remain the status quo whether the IFP remains in the National Government or not."

"I hope that this categorical statement will put an end to mischievous rumours."
