STATEMENT BY:
MR ALFRED MPONTSHANE MP
IFP EDUCATION SPOKESPERSON
11 March 2008
The Inkatha
Freedom Party unashamedly opposes and questions the findings of
the Mangosuthu University of Technology's Executive Committee of
the Academic Board that was tasked to investigate the violence
that arose from protests at the University last week.
The
Committee's report is placing the blame squarely on SADESMO and
it is clear that the University is not willing to shoulder any
blame itself.
What the
Inkatha Freedom Party would like to know from the University is
the following:
-Was there a
commission of enquiry or a fact-finding mission?
-If so, who
formed part of this commission?
The
allegations made in their findings are totally one-sided and
unsubstantial.
Furthermore,
the use of rubber bullets on students must be strongly
condemned. Hence the reason why the IFP called for a proper
investigation into the current situation at the University. We
did not just want a report with mere findings by an Academic
Board.
The IFP
believes the University must stop playing political games and
furnish us with the truth. Management's belief that students
should be victimised is a clear indication of where their
political affiliations lie.
