Lack of discipline by South African forces
cause for concern
MEDIA STATEMENT RELEASED BY:
MR. VELAPHI NDLOVU - MP
IFP SPOKESPERSON FOR SAFETY & SECURITY
September 11, 2006
The IFP spokesperson for Safety and Security, Mr. Velaphi Ndlovu,
today said:
"The IFP notes with concern and shock the overall lack of
discipline by South African forces in peace-keeping missions
throughout Africa. We find the loss of millions of Rands worth
of ammunition and equipment appalling, and ask, how the Defence
Minister can make known the fact that he is aware of the
problem, but at the same time not tell the taxpayers how he is
prepared to address the situation."
"The IFP would like to see action being taken against negligent
soldiers and calls on the Secretary of Defence for complete
transparency and openness when informing the South African
public about the remedial action taken to address these very
serious problems."
