The IFP Youth Brigade would like to express its
dismay at the unprofessional behaviour of Mr Pucto Mafani, Communications
Manager of Kaizer Chiefs football club.
During an interview with Sowetan sports journalist
Ramatsiyi Moholoa, after Pirates won 1-0 at the FNB stadium last Saturday
(2 May 2004), the IFPYB notes with disgust that Mr Mafani made a
derogative remark to the effect that "We accept defeat by Pirates, we
are not like the IFP".
In a democracy Mr Mafani, like any other citizen, is
entitled to his opinion however, the IFPYB thinks it was uncalled for and
detrimental to the sports fraternity, to make such a remark on behalf of
the team, knowing very well that Kaizer Chiefs is a football power house
which is respected and supported across religious cultural and political
spectrum, including the IFP.
We therefore call upon Kaizer Chiefs management to
distance itself from Mr Mafani's irresponsible statement. We also call
upon the team to take corrective measures in dealing with this unbecoming
behaviour.
