FORMER DIRECTOR-GENERAL CAN BE BLAMED
FOR CURRENT DIFFICULTIES OF HOME AFFAIRS
June 13, 2006
STATEMENT RELEASED BY:
Ms. Inka Mars - MP
IFP spokesperson for Home Affairs
Parliamentary Caucus
The IFP spokesperson for Home Affairs, Ms. Inka Mars, today
rejected the comments made by the Honourable Chauke during the
last budget vote.
Ms. Mars said:
"The consistent deterioration in the administration of the
Department of Home Affairs led to qualification and disclaimers
by the Auditor General.
It must be noted that the Director-General for several years,
Mr. Masetla can be held responsible for many of the difficulties
facing the current Minister and Director-General."
Further Ms. Mars said: "The former Minister has had several
meetings with Executive pointing out the difficulties
encountered with Mr. Masetla; therefore Hon. Chauke's comments
during the budget vote are not acceptable to the IFP."
"It was not the former Minister who received the disclaimer - it
is a consequence of the activities of the former
Director-General who operated for years with the approval of the
Executive."
Ms. Mars concluded by saying: "We support the Minister's request
for assistance from Treasury and plead for the matter to be
resolved as a matter of urgency."
