The IFP is shocked to hear of the death of Prison Warder J Horne and the serious injury of another warder in a failed mission to aid the escape of a prisoner transported by the two warders to Grootte Schuur Hospital earlier today.

For such an attack to take place in the waiting room of a hospital in the presence of many awaiting patients is horrendous and unacceptable.

The IFP sends our heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr. Horne. Mr. Horne's sister is a senior member of the IFP staff in the Parliamentary offices in Cape Town.

We call on Minister Balfour to immediately commence an investigation into the facts of this case and establish how such an ambush was arranged.
