IFP CONGRATULATES FORMER PRESIDENT U.S PRESIDENT JIMMY CARTER
ON RECEIVING NOBEL PEACE PRIZE

14 October 2002

The National Spokesperson of the IFP, Reverend K.M Zondi, has extended the congratulations and expressed the delight of the IFP at the news that former U.S President, Jimmy Carter has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work as a peacemaker.

Reverend Zondi said:

"We would like to extend our heartfelt congratulations and joy on hearing the news that former U.S President Jimmy Carter has been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for his humanitarian work as a peacemaker, during his occupancy of White House, and over the last 20 years since leaving office.

"At the heart of Mr Carter's philosophy has been the principled belief that conflicts should be resolved through the negotiation and compromise, rather than resorting to military intervention and violence. The work of the Carter Centre in Alanta, and in particular, the Habitat for Humanity project, has brought new hope to tens of thousands of people over the last twenty years, including communities in Durban earlier this year.

"Mr Carter's remarkable achievement's indeed bear eloquent testimony to the words of Jesus Christ, "Blessed are the peacemakers".
