This highly successful event - attended by over 1,000 people - was presided over by Vice-President Dick Cheyney and the Award was presented to Dr Buthelezi by Charlton Heston.
It was apparent from the reception received by Dr Buthelezi, as well as the numerous photographs taken and subsequently published, that Dr Buthelezi won over the hearts of the American Conservative Union which is the largest lobbying group in the United States and which has been in existence for 150 years.
