DURBAN DA COUNCILLOR WELCOMED INTO INKATHA FREEDOM PARTY

Cape Town :  15 August, 2000

The Inkatha Freedom Party today welcomes DA Councillor Trevor Prince into the Inkatha Freedom Party. Councillor Prince, a ward member for Durban Central, announced his decision to join the IFP at a press conference hosted by the National Chairperson of the IFP, Premier L. P. H. M Mtshali.

Premier Mtshali said:

"By joining the IFP, Councillor Prince has identified himself with a party that is wholly committed to the process of co-operative politics and nation building in South Africa. It is our belief that South Africa will never heal the scars of the past unless all of us reject politics of sectional interests that some parties have sadly chosen to adopt."

"We, in the Inkatha Freedom Party are proud of the fact that our Party contains elected representatives from all of our disparate communities. Our Party has a solid track record of fighting for the inclusion of all South Africans in our politics and we are delighted that Mr Prince has decided to make a home in our political family."

Commenting on his decision to join the IFP, Councillor Prince said:

"The Inkatha Freedom Party has shown itself, over many years, to be committed to building an inclusive politics in which all are welcomed regardless of which community they come from. Their willingness to roll up their sleeves and involve themselves in government, whilst maintaining a distinctive stance and providing constructive criticism, seems to me to be far more what is needed in this country than the shrill, ever critical voice, that has become the hallmark of the Democratic Alliance."

"The role that the Inkatha Freedom Party is playing in South African politics, should be an example to all political parties in our country."

"I am therefore very pleased that the Inkatha Freedom Party has accepted me into its ranks with such warmth and I look forward to working with my new colleagues in speedily building the new South Africa, which the vast majority of our people so urgently wish to see."
