The Inkatha Freedom Party today served papers to join forces with other opposition parties trying to prevent the disbanding of the Scorpions.

Mr van der Merwe said: "The IFP vehemently opposes the disbanding of the Scorpions and we gladly join other opposition parties as an amicus curiae.

"We believe that the Scorpions in its current form is an irreplaceable element in the fight against crime, as the Khampepe Commission confirmed."

In conclusion Mr van der Merwe said: "We will fight the ANC's abuse of power and subversion of democracy in Court." ;
