IFP CONDEMNS ANC ACTIVIST INTIMIDATION

Durban: April 17, 2004

The IFP today condemned the intimidation and intolerance of ANC activists today when celebrating their electoral success.

Musa Zondi, IFP National Spokesperson said that ANC activists were demonstrating and burning dummy coffins representing the IFP outside the home of the Premier, Dr LPHM Mtshali in Claremont Township today. The police had to be called to remove them.

In a different incident, ANC activists attacked an IFP Councillor, BA Dlamini in Section C in Wembezi Township outside Estcourt. Mr Dlamini was subjected to taunts that the IFP was politically finished and his car was attacked and almost overturned.

Musa Zondi said:

"The IFP unequivocally condemns this disgraceful behaviour which flies in the face of political tolerance and of our cherished democracy."

''We implore the ANC leadership to restrain their members from participating in such naked aggression."
