IFP Welcomes Pahad's Comments
IFP MEDIA STATEMENT BY:
MS INKA MARS MP
IFP SPOKESPERSON ON HOME AFFAIRS
17 May 2007
The Inkatha Freedom Party's
Spokesperson on Home Affairs, Ms Inka Mars MP, today welcomed
the comments of Minister Essop Pahad, who said that government
had no intention of interfering with media freedom through the
Films and Publications Amendment Bill.
"This has been a hotly debated issue and the IFP is firmly
against the Films and Publication Amendment Bill, which as it
stands will subject the media to pre-publication censorship,"
said Ms Mars.
"We are however happy that the Minister has clarified some
issues surrounding this controversial Amendment Bill by saying
that there will be no effort by government to curb media
freedom.
"The IFP applauds Mr Essop for making these comments, they are
definitely a step in the right direction," concluded Ms Mars.
