The IFP condemns the killings which
occurred yesterday, 17th May 2005 in Cape Town. A member of the
SAPS, who was off duty, appears to have slaughtered innocent
children and two adults in what appears to be a well-planned
assassination plot.
This behaviour of some of the SAPS
Members, whom the Government has entrusted by giving them
firearms to protect the community from criminals, is not
acceptable at all. It would not be a good idea to disarm the
Members of SAPS when they are off-duty, because, as the IFP
knows, they will become easy targets for criminals. We urge the
court not to grant bail to this policeman and we urge the
Department to suspend him with immediate effect, until his case
has been finalised.
We, the IFP, convey our heartfelt
condolences to the families, friends and relatives of the
deceased. We urge the community not to retaliate and to wait
until the full process of the law has taken place.
