The South African Democratic Student Movement
(Sadesmo) today welcomed the Mangosuthu University of
Technology's decision to lift the suspension of nine of its
members.
The nine Sadesmo students were among twelve
suspended from the university in March, after a month-long
boycott calling for the deployment of more lecturers at the
university.
"We are glad sanity has prevailed. Thousands
of students participated in the march earlier this year, yet
only Sadesmo students were suspended," said Sadesmo provincial
chairman Brian Masondo today.
He added: "It was clear that it was a
political move on the part of the University and their decision
to lift our suspensions is an admission of guilt on their part."
"We have lost out on valuable class time and
it will now be very difficult for us to achieve results in
forthcoming exams. We might still consider taking legal against
the University," concluded Mr Masondo.
