The South African Democratic Students
Movement (Sadesmo) would like condemn the intimidation of its
members at the Durban University of Technology (DUT), the IFP
student movement said today.
"It is unthinkable that after so many
years of democracy in South Africa, there are political
organisations that are still being harassed when conducting
their campaigns," said Ntuthuko Majozi, Sadesmo National Deputy
President.
He added: "The Sadesmo office at the
campus was recently broken in to and four SADESMO members have
received death threats."
According to Ntuthuko, who is also an
SRC member at DUT, the problem started when Sadesmo intensified
their campaign at the DUT residences.
"The motive of the break-in was
definitely political."
In conclusion Mr Ntuthuko said: "We urge
the University to ensure proper security during the elections in
the beginning of October. We don't want a repeat of last year's
events where hooligans destroyed ballot papers."
