IFP Bows Out of ANC's Way at Nseleni

20th February 2009

The IFP has chosen an alternative venue for its rally at Nseleni near Richards Bay on Sunday 23 February 2009. The IFP had arranged the use of the Nseleni Sports Grounds stadium with the local authorities. The ANC subsequently decided to hold a rally on the same premises on the same day at the same time.

"We are determined not to give the ANC any pretext to portray the IFP as a perpetrator of politically motivated violence in KwaZulu Natal ahead of the 2009 election. We have decided to hold our rally elsewhere," said IFP National Organiser Albert Mncwango.

The party has previously condemned the clashes between its and ANC supporters at Nongoma where the two parties held their rallies concurrently two weeks ago. "We have since pledged not to be drawn into incidents of political intolerance which are clearly orchestrated by the ANC for its own propaganda purposes," said Mncwango.

The alternative venue for the Sunday rally is Emganwini near Nseleni and the function will be convened by Leader of the Official Opposition in KwaZulu Natal Dr Lionel Mtshali at 10h00.

The IFP will also deliver a memorandum to the IEC responding the ANC's allegations of responsibility for political intolerance in the province.

The IFP delegation will visit the IEC offices in Westville on Monday 24 February 2009 at 10h00.

The media are invited to attend both events.
