NQAKULA'S COMMENT OUT OF LINE
April 20, 2006
The IFP's spokesperson for Safety and
Security, Mr. Velaphi Ndlovu, today condemned the comments of
the Minister of Safety and Security, Mr. Charles Nqakula on Talk
Radio 702 yesterday.
Mr. Ndlovu said:
"It is reported that the Minister in his remarks yesterday
shifted the responsibility of the personal security of the
inhabitants of South Africa away from his portfolio. This in the
eyes of IFP is as good as handing over his portfolio to the
nation, without pay and benefits. The Minister should not forget
that he gets paid by the tax payer to fight crime."
Mr. Ndlovu added that the same Minister himself is surrounded by
bodyguards and 24 hour security, paid for by the very same tax
payers whose personal security he seems to neglect. It is the
line function of the Minister to ensure that contingency plans
are in place for the protection and security of all.
In conclusion Mr. Ndlovu said: "If the Minister feels that he is
not equipped to handle his portfolio he should call a National
Crime Fighting Indaba to get input. The IFP would certainly have
comprehensive proposals to make."
