ILLEGAL FIREARM - ANC ORGANISER

DURBAN : MAY 21, 1999

The Inkatha Freedom Party today challenged the management of the South African Police Services to confirm or deny that a senior organiser of the African National Congress has been found to be in possession of an illegal firearm in Durban.

"The IFP calls on the police and those organs of the ANC-led national government that have been responsible for a series of leaks about gun-running in KwaZulu-Natal to tell the public the name of the ANC organiser and to give details of the raid on a flat in Durban."

"The police should also reveal who owns the flat and who the occupants of the flat are. If there have been no charges preferred, we would like to know the reasons. Finally, we would like the police to tell the public who the owner of the gun is."
