'HALTING CAPE BOMB CARNAGE MUST BECOME NUMBER ONE PRIORITY OF STATE'

CAPE TOWN :  21 August, 2000

Inkatha Freedom Party Safety and Security Spokesperson, Velaphi Ndlovu MP has demanded that the National and Western Cape governments make halting the Cape bombing campaign their number one priority. His comments follow the latest bomb blast outside a gay bar in Cape Town on Saturday night.

Mr Ndlovu said:

"Decisive action must replace the futile apportioning of blame for the Cape Bombings. It is extraordinary that two years after the start of this terror campaign, we appear no nearer to bringing to justice the cowardly killers who threaten the lives and property of the people of the Cape."

"These bombers are the enemies of every law abiding and peace loving South African. The Government must make the ending of this bombing campaign its absolute priority. The full force of the state must be deployed against these wicked criminals."

"I urge Western Cape Safety and Security Minister, Hennie Bester, and his National counterpart, Steve Tshwete, to meet at the earliest opportunity to adopt a plan for concerted action to end this menace to the safety and security of our citizens."

"The time for talk is over, the time for decisive action long overdue."
