The IFP's KZN Deputy-Publicity Secretary, Mr VB
Ndlovu, today condemned the ANC's attack on its office after a march
following the funeral of Councillor Chetty in uMtshezi today. The IFP also
announced that it would be filing charges for malicious damage of property
as well as defamation of its reputation.
Mr VB Ndlovu said:
"The IFP is outraged at what the ANC in
uMtshezi has done today. We will be filing charges for malicious damage
of property, as there is no excuse for such behaviour. The IFP will also
be filing charges for damage to its reputation. Councillor Chetty has
never been a member of the IFP and yet members of the media and the ANC
persist in continuing with this false claim that has already led to the
damage of property as the well the defamation of the reputation of the
IFP."
"It is a great tragedy that such malicious
actions are based on such lies that benefit no peace-loving person. The
IFP calls on ANC KZN provincial structures to act quickly to ensure that
their members in uMtshezi are contained and that they start to react
responsibly as the IFP would hate to see the situation in uMtshezi
revert to the turbulent times of the past."
"The IFP reiterates that Councillor Chetty
was not a member of the IFP. Anyone who continues to spread this rumour
is only adding to what is already a very tense and hostile atmosphere in
uMtshezi that has the potential to spin out of control."
Mr VB Ndlovu concluded:
"The IFP will be taking this matter up with
the relevant authorities because the IFP believes in the rule of law. We
call on all our members to remain calm in uMtshezi no matter the extreme
provocation."
