IFP concerned about the housing situation in
the Western Cape
MEDIA STATEMENT RELEASED BY:
MR BONGINKOSI DHLAMINI MP
IFP SPOKESPERSON ON HOUSING
September 22, 2006
The IFP spokesperson for Housing, Mr Bonginkosi Dhlamini, today
said:
"Last week the IFP was appalled to learn of the situation where
the poor were being illegally crowded-out by public servants,
who were approved and allocated housing subsidies by the Western
Cape Department of Housing. This week it is reported that the
poor are once again being marginalised by the WC Department of
Housing by making the rental fee for the N2 Gateway units too
high."
"The IFP urges the WC Department of Housing to reassess the
rental structures, as it is currently excluding the very people
the N2 Gateway units were built for. We cannot help but get the
distinct impression that the WC Department of Housing is in an
administrative shambles."
Mr Dhlamini concluded by saying: "We strongly recommend that the
Department improve their administrative processes and take steps
in correcting the appalling rental structures so that the
objective of the N2 Gateway project can be fulfilled."
