The IFP in Gauteng has condemned the
actions of South African Democratic Teachers Union (SADTU)
members in Soweto, who abandoned their class rooms as part of
'go-slow' today.
Sadtu's 'go-slow' was called due to a
salary dispute and comes only days before learners are to write
their final exams.
"We appeal to SADTU members in Soweto to
prioritise our children's education, because they are the future
of this country. Teachers cannot preach commitment and
discipline to their learners when they do not lead by example.
The IFP believes that this go-slow calls into question the
professional integrity of these Sadtu teachers," said Petros
Sithole, the IFP's Gauteng Chairperson.
The IFP would like to wish all Gauteng
learners the best of luck for their 2009 final exam, especially
the grade 12 learners.
