IFP HAS FILLED PROVINCIAL PARLIAMENTARY VACANCIES

DURBAN : OCTOBER 23, 2002

The National Organiser of the IFP, Mr Albert Mncwango MP, has announced that the IFP has replaced the two IFP provincial parliamentary vacancies in KwaZulu-Natal with Mrs Abbie Mchunu and Mr S.V Naicker.

Mr Mncwango said:

"It is with great pleasure that I can announce that the IFP has appointed Mrs Abbie Mchunu and Mr S.V Naicker to occupy the two provincial parliamentary vacancies in the KwaZulu-Natal parliament, created by the expulsion of Mr Mike Tarr and Mr Maurice Mackenzie from the Party."

"Yesterday's ruling in the Pietermartizburg High Court was first and foremost a victory for the people of KwaZulu-Natal. The ruling also testifies to the independence and integrity of our judiciary."

"The IFP's principled stand has ensured that the will and voice of the people expressed at the ballot box has been upheld. The Machiavellian attempt by the ANC to take over the government of the province by trickery and through the back door has been roundly defeated."

"The Party believes that Mrs Abbie Mchunu and Mr S.V Naicker will be first -class representatives of the IFP and servants of the people."

"The IFP looks forward to putting this tardy affair behind us and getting back to working to make KwaZulu-Natal a world-class province and rolling-out service delivery."
