CONVICTION OF KILLERS CLAIMING LINKS TO AFRICAN NATIONAL CONGRESS

Durban :  24 October, 2000

IFP Safety & Security Spokesperson, Velaphi Ndlovu MP, has welcomed the sentencing in the Cape High Court of Mr Ndaliwonga Mandela for the double murder of a member of SANCO and a member of the UDM. The sentence was handed down on the same day that the Pietermaritzburg High Court sentenced the killers of the late Secretary-General of the UDM, Mr Sifiso Nkabinde.

Mr Ndlovu said:

"We welcome the fact that these killers have finally been put behind bars. However, it is a matter of grave concern that from the Cape to KwaZulu Natal, killers are being sentenced who consistently claim that they were acting upon the instructions of the local leadership of the African National Congress to eliminate political opponents."

"Whilst we are pleased to see the rule of law upheld and criminals brought to justice, we hope that further trials will take place before too long of those who gave the instructions for these brutal murders."

"I urge my colleagues in the ANC to leave no stone unturned in investigating these very serious allegations and, if they are true, in unmasking the identities of those who gave instructions to these killers. The ANC must make sure that such people are handed over to the police so that justice can take its course."
