IFP Women to Reach Out During 16 Days of Activism

24th November 2008

The IFP Women's Brigade (IFPWB) will campaign vigorously to challenge South Africans to declare a truce on violence against women and children during this year's 16 Days of Activism starting tomorrow.

"For starters, we will take our message against abuse of women and children to all districts of KwaZulu Natal and beyond," said IFPWB chairperson and IFP spokesperson on gender issues Cllr Thembi Nzuza.

The IFPWB has consistently pointed out that despite its liberal constitution and the legislative overhaul since 1994, South Africa remains home to unacceptable levels of domestic violence.

"We will use the opportunity afforded to us by the global initiative of 16 Days of Activism to popularise the public commitment, both personal and organisational, to the eradication of violence against our women and children," said Cllr Nzuza.

The dates and venues for specific events will be announced in due course.
