With the latest actions by Mr Robert Mugabe in
Zimbabwe, Mr Ben Skosana MP IFP spokesperson on Foreign Affairs
today said:
"It is obvious that Mr Mugabe is finding it
difficult to step back away from the political precipice before
him. His latest
antics signal the beginning of the end of the road for himself
and strongmen of ZANU-PF."
"Their tactical move to deny the UN Elders,
Mrs Graça Machel, Mr Kofi Anan and Mr Jimmy Carter, entry to
Zimbabwe to assess the humanitarian situation which has
deteriorated dramatically, should be the last straw in defiance.
The Kenyan Prime Minister, Raila Odinga's call
for the AU to immediately deploy peace-keeping forces in
Zimbabwe should be supported by African leaders, including
President Mothlanthe.
Peace-keeping forces are necessary to ensure a peaceful
transition."
"The UN Security Council Resolution on
international humanitarian intervention stipulates that
defending human rights of the oppressed and their human freedom
must prevail over sovereignty and legal documents.
This practically means that the AU can diplomatically and
/ or militarily intervene in Zimbabwe to create a passage for
aid and investments to alleviate the current human suffering."
