Women of good sense standing together - 9th August 2007

26th July, 2007

The IFP's National Women's Brigade Publicity Secretary, Ms Nonhlanhla Makhubo, today announced that the IFP would be observing Women's Day, 9th August 2007 at an event, which will take place at the KwaMpungose Hall, in Eshowe, Umlalazi, in KwaZulu-Natal. The event will begin at 10h00.

Ms Makhubo said:

"We will debate and discuss a number of issues but the forerunner will certainly be the "sexual license" for 12 year old children to have abortions and receive contraception without the consent of their parents, which for us is tantamount to child abuse. It is shameful to think that while a child of 13 is restricted from watching movies without parental consent, children of 12 can have an abortion without their parents knowledge or consent. Something is certainly wrong. She warned; "if this kind of rot is not checked South Africa is headed down a slippery slope of moral depravity."

Nonhlanhla concluded:

"We are looking forward to lively debate that will help guide the women of South Africa out of the moral quagmire we seem to be trapped in, which often affects women and children the most. It is time for women of good sense in South Africa to stand together and make their voice heard."

All media are invited to attend.
